On 19 June 2023 (local time), a new treaty on the biodiversity of the high seas and deep seabed was officially adopted at the United Nations.
The treaty, referred to as the ‘BBNJ Agreement’, is a significant turning point for related academic fields such as the law of the sea and international environmental law. It is expected to have an important impact on various activities including navigation, academic research, and commercial endeavors.
